Records, tapes and gear

Vinyl at the front, cassettes on the wall, and the machines to play them on.

Bins of records, racks of CDs, a wall of cassettes, and shelves of vintage receivers, tape decks and speakers above them. If you find a record you don’t know, there’s a player on hand for the open ones, so you can hear it first.

“Turntables come ready, complete with new stylus cartridges, needles and belts.”

And everything else

Keep walking. It goes back further than you think.

Past the records there’s tie dye, tapestries, incense, beads, wind chimes, jewelry, lamps and a lot of things that are hard to put a category on. People have been buying beads here to make hemp necklaces for over twenty years.

Consignment

A lot of what’s on these shelves was made by somebody who lives here.

We’re a consignment shop. Local artists and makers sell through us, some of them for years at a stretch, and we try to pay them properly for it. One of them sews caftans and bags out of the Indian cotton tapestries she buys here, which is about as full-circle as it gets.

“They are a consignment shop that offers fair prices, and pays the artists that sell there extremely fairly, with an even better percentage than I’ve seen anywhere else!”

Make something? We’d like to see it.

A skull and lightning bolt painted directly into the floorboards of the shop.
Painted into the floorboards, not a sticker. Mind where you stand.

The building

Look up, and then look at the window.

The ceiling is papered end to end in old posters and album flats. The front window is a wall of compact discs that catches the light all afternoon. Painted above the glass, there’s a line worth stopping for.

“A weed is simply a plant whose virtues we haven’t yet discovered.”

Painted across the storefront, above the window
The shop ceiling covered edge to edge in old concert posters and album sleeves, with a record hanging from a cord.
Rows of compact discs mounted in the front window, catching the light.

What people say

★★★★★

It's a Beautiful Day is a Hippie Store! Peace and Love! I've been coming to this shop since I was a kid for all things hippie! My family would come buy beads from here to make hemp necklaces. They still have beads for sale! 22yrs later.
